Financial assistance and diapers
July 11, 2012
A mother of 3 in the Chicago area was looking for some help. One of her twin boys has a rare chromosome deletion (8p23.1 to be exact). He has similarities of an autistic child, yet is different is other ways as well. He cannot talk yet, has a severe learning delay (evaluated at a 9 month old level) and also has several food allergies. He has been in therapy since he was 15 months old and now attends a special needs pre-school. Her husband works two jobs, but still doesn't make enough to be able to handle the financial needs of his family.
With their house currently in foreclosure they are facing difficult decisions like many American's in our country. Some of the main items they needed help with was diapers and sensory related toys to help their son with his special needs. She posted a wish looking for a hero to help out.
The Chicago HERO Team was having a launch party to make their community aware that a military veteran has been hired by the Wish Upon A Hero foundation to help people in need throughout the Chicago community. They teamed up with local celebrity Desmond Clark who played many great seasons as a tight end for the Chicago Bears. Desmond also has a local non-profit organization called 88 Wayz Youth Organization whose mission sets out to develop the youth into well rounded, productive citizens by cultivating social, literacy, and leadership skills through adult to peer mentoring.
The Chicago HERO Team selected this families wish and the result was several hundreds of dollars donated by members of the community who attended the launch party along with dozens of packages of diapers.
